In the healthy condition of man, the spiritual vital force (autocracy), the dynamis that animates the material body (organism), rules with unbounded sway, and retains all the parts of the organism in admirable, harmonious, vital operation, as regards both sensations and functions, so that our indwelling, reason-gifted mind can freely employ this living, healthy instrument for the higher purposes of our existence.

For easier understanding of the health and disease Hahnemann points at the word VITAL FORCE. He says that Vital Force is a dynamic force that gives life to the material body. The word dynamic means “ that force which can be felt but cannot be seen”(e.g. The low and high tide of the sea based on the moon phases is because of the gravitational force which can be noted but cannot be seen).The Vital Force is AUTOCRATIC meaning it is self-willed. He says it is AUTOMATIC, which means it is instinctive. The main property of the Vital Force is to maintain the structure and function of the material body in a proper harmony (Balance). When this happens the individual is able to get above the daily needs and resort to higher purpose of his existence.production and Survival are the basic function of humans being. The higher purpose is being able to be useful to others, no matter even in smallest possible way (the spouse offering a glass of water to the other with a smile when he comes home inspite of all the chores at their home can also be considered a higher behavior that means to be social).
